Our mission is to empower our athletes and represent our community with pride.
We are the Tauranga Māori Basketball Association, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting our players and teams as they compete in the Poitūkohu Māori National Tournament.

Our history
Te Maru o Mauao was established in 2017 and hails from the Tauranga Moana iwi of Ngai Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāti Pūkenga. As a Māori basketball club, we welcome all whānau who love playing poitūkohu, basketball.
The highlight of every year is the NZ National Māori Basketball Tournament in January.
We are proud of our whānau for securing national titles over the years, and we put that down to our club values:

Tauranga Moana is home. From the harbour to the hills, our whānau come from across the rohe to play together under one name.
2027 is open
Registration for the 2027 season is now open. The tournament will be held in Hastings. Register and we will be in touch with teams, trainings and the tournament plan.
